Adams was raised in Castle Rock Colorado, as one of the seven kids who was her smallest. Her father was in U.S. service in Italy. The mid-1990s saw her begin acting and dancing professionally in the Boulder Dinner Theatre and the Country Dinner Playhouse in Colorado. After that, she joined the regional theater located in Minnesota where she was cast in a mock documentary film about beauty pageants Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999). Her screen debut was a huge success, in which she played an annoying but pleasant contestant, Janet moved into Los Angeles where she began professional acting. Between June 1951 and September 22, 1962 she was married with actor Tony Curtis. She is also the mother of Kelly Curtis & Jamie Lee Curtis. Leigh was a star in a variety of cult films over the next decade, including Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (from 1960) as well as Living It Up (1954) which starred Martin Lewis.
